A total of 460,282 school leavers have participated in an independent testing of knowledge, Ukrainian Education and Science Minister Ivan Vakarchuk said during a Government meeting on Wednesday.
"On April 22, we successfully conducted a national independent testing, in which 460,282 school leavers participated and it is around 90% of those who submitted applications," the Minister said.
Vakarchuk noted that 33 variants of tests on eleven subjects had been drawn up. The tests on ten of them, apart from the Ukrainian language, were translated in the languages of national minorities - Russian, Hungarian and Moldovan. He also said that a special Ukrainian-Polish dictionary had been developed for Polish language schools at their request.
Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko earlier said that she was indignant at preparations for the organization of tests and that the government wanted to hear about the opinion of the public, parents and teachers during its meeting on April 23.
Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said it was a task for the government to ensure the proper testing of knowledge of schoolchildren.
