IMF decides to leave representation in Kyiv till April 2009

The International Monetary Fund decided to preserve its representation in Ukraine till the end of April, 2009, at the least, IMF permanent representative in Ukraine Balazs Horvath informed.

Balazs Horvath noted that consultations on the future fate of the IMF Representative Office in Kyiv will be further continued.

Earlier, the IMF stated about a possible closing of its representation in Ukraine.

As it was reported, Head of the IMF mission in Ukraine Robert Ford told journalists on April 2 after completion of the mission's work that presently the IMF carries out reduction of the number of employees in a number of countries, as well as carries out measures aimed at economizing on its expenses.

With taking into consideration such policies of the Fund, it is planned that the IMF representations will remain only in the countries having regular financial cooperation with the Fund, as well as in the system-forming states from the viewpoint of the IMF's budget.

The IMF office in Kyiv operates since 1993.

Since the moment of joining the IMF in 1992, Ukraine attracted the IMF's funds to the total amount of about USD 4.4 billion.
