The Bloc of Bukovyna National Forces has asked the European Parliament to assess attempts of Romania to "divide the borders of Europe" and its claims to Ukrainian territories, Southern Bessarabia and Northern Bukovyna, a member of the bloc's council and a deputy of the Chernivtsi regional council, Petro Kobevko, said.
He said that the Bloc of Bukovyna National Forces, which includes six regional party organizations - the Narodny Rukh Ukrainy (People's Movement of Ukraine), the Sobor Ukrainian Republican Party, the Ukrainian People's Party, the All-Ukrainian Association Svoboda, the Congress of Ukrainian Nationalists and UNA-UNSO - had protested against a statement made by Romanian President Traian Basescu, concerning the transfer of Southern Bessarabia to Moldova and Northern Bukovyna to Romania and demanded that the Ukrainian president, the parliament and the government respond to this statement.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry ordered Ukraine's temporary representative in Romania to investigate Romania's position concerning the abovementioned statement by Basescu that appeared in media.
