Ukraine President Victor Yushenko, Azerbaijan President Ilkham Aliyev, Georgia President Mikhail Saakashvili, Lithuania President Valdas Adamkus, Poland President Leh Kachinsky and RK Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Lyazzat Kiinov signed a communique in energy cooperation on results of held in Krakow (Poland) on May 11 informal summit, reported in Ukraine President press-service.
"In ХХІ century energy cooperation is one of the key-factors which has fundamental meaning to support sustainable development", - stated in the document which was read on joint press-conference by the Lithuania President Valdas Adamkus. Energy sphere offers significant opportunities for international cooperation and economic integration through large infrastructure projects realization – exactly this question was in the center of attention of high level delegations, arrived on May 12 in Krakow.
6 countries invested a lot of efforts "to develop modern extracting industry, transit infrastructure and regional cooperation on intergovernmental level", - stressed in the document. These efforts are directed to energy supply from Caspian region to Europe. This aim will be achieved via source and energy transportation routes diversification which unite Caspian and Black seas with Baltic Sea region, in detail, Odessa-Brody-Plock-Gdansk route, but also via new gas transportation routes development.
The documents also say that energy cooperation should count such important factors as energy effectiveness and environment protection. In all these spheres cooperation will be based on rules and principles of international law, but also instruments accessed in bilateral and regional cooperation and foreseen by the EU in European Neighborhood Policy will be used.
Meeting participants agreed upon activation of cooperation starting working on intergovernmental agreement which will regulate countries and companies participation in Caspian oil transportation corridor usage project to European and world markets ("Odessa-Brody-Plock-Gdansk" pipeline). Delegations agreed to establish intergovernmental working group on energy questions on profile minister’s level.
Besides, the idea of joint energy projects development company establishment met with approval. Intergovernmental working group task will be defining its basic criteria for establishment.
Meeting participants underlined that th summit in Krakow will continue in October in Vilnius where "the most important energy market of East and West" will be invited to participate.
