Ukrainian-Tajik relations are very important - President

Speaking at his joint press conference with President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan after Ukrainian-Tajik talks, President Victor Yushchenko said that for Ukraine its relations with Tajikistan are special and very important.

He stressed certainty that Ukraine has great opportunity to realize its political, economic and trade interests in developing relations with Tajikistan.

“The priority for our relations is development of cooperation in hydro-energy”, - said Victor Yushchenko with reference to the Joint Statement by the two Presidents. According to him Tajikistan faces need to modernize equipment on its hydroelectric plants, which had been produced in Ukraine. Beside that there are plans to establish a few dozens of small and middle-sized hydroelectric plants across Tajikistan.

As another direction of potentially beneficial cooperation President Yushchenko named agriculture.
According to President the sides have also discussed humanitarian cooperation. “Ukraine would like to propose its capabilities in training technical and humanitarian specialists, civilian as well as military. This tradition had been working for many years before and we would like to restore it”, - said Victor Yushchenko.

Also the two country have agreed to eschange embassies.
