Economy Ministry notes growth in Belgian investment in Ukraine

Ukrainian Economy Minister Bohdan Danylyshyn has said that Belgian investment in Ukraine grew in 2008.

He was speaking during a meeting of the first Ukrainian-Belgian commission on trade-economic and financial cooperation in Kyiv on Friday.

Bohdan Danylyshyn said that Belgium had invested USD 44 million in the country by July 1, 2008.

The minister also said that 107 Ukrainian companies currently operate with Belgian assets.

He promised Belgian colleagues that Ukraine would create all of the necessary conditions for a favorable investment climate with the goal of attracting foreign investment.

According to the Economy Ministry, the trade between Ukraine and Belgium totaled over USD 1 billion in 2008.

Bohdan Danylyshyn said that electrical machines and equipment, textile and oil refined products had been mainly exported over the period.

He also said that cauldrons, machines, technical equipment, chemical and pharmaceutical products had been mainly imported from Belgium to Ukraine.
